Have you ever been trapped on the diet train? A restrictive lifestyle that prevents you from truly experiencing life and all of its glory. As we transition now into the holiday season it is important to remember that life is meant to be enjoyed. This post is intended to educate you on one of the most important tools I have ever learnt on my journey to health, its called balance. Read on to learn what helps me live in balance over the holiday season.
1. BE PRESENT:
It’s so important to turn down the volume in your head. What I mean is to disconnect from the internal dialogue that goes on in your brain telling you that you are fat, aren’t worthy of love or that you don’t deserve to enjoy life. Find the volume dial and turn it WAY down. It wont serve you in the long run I promise. Connect with your breath and be present with those that you love because in the blink of an eye the holidays will be over.
2. STAY HYDRATED:
One of my favourite tips for staying on track while at family gatherings, holiday mixers or any other type of festive party is to drink water! Now this doesn’t mean that you have to stay sober all night and not enjoy yourself. If indulging in a glass of wine or sipping on a holiday cocktail helps you maintain balance in your life then by all means go for it! I do however encourage you to alternate each cocktail with a refreshing glass of H2O. Hydration will not only prevent a hangover the next day, but will also stop you from munching out on the snack table. We all know what happens once we get a little tipsy… our version of moderation gets a little blurry and our ability to make smart choices that will honour of longterm health goals gets a little whack!
3. PLAN AHEAD:
If you know you are going to party that will have limited healthy options then THINK SMART and plan ahead. I love to bring a healthy appy to the party not only to ensure there will be one thing I know I will enjoy, but also because sharing healthy food is really fun! What better way to strike up a quick convo during cocktail hour than to chit chat with your neighbour about how you made an amazing vegan spinach dip or festive kale caesar. Inspire those you love to try news foods they may not have even known existed.
4. DO YOU, AND DON’T GIVE AF!:
This tip has taken me an incredible amount of time to learn but is so frickin valuable when it comes to being true to yourself. I used to feel so insecure every time I went out with friends and family and chose to make healthy decisions for my body. Eat what makes you feel strong, beautiful and empowered and don’t give AF what others may think. Those who actually care about you will support whatever helps you achieve your goals no if, ands, or butts!
5. GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK:
Perfection is not the end goal my friends so stop beating yourself up for being human. You are AMAZING! Let go, kick your boots off and have some fun this holiday season. Don’t stress about straying away from your typical eating routine. Stay up later, have a piece of cake, kiss under the mistletoe… do what you gotta do to free yourself from restrictive living and self judgement.
Hope you enjoyed my favourite holiday tips for honouring a balanced lifestyle.
