Wow. From the hustle and bustle of holiday festivities to having one too many boozy drinks on New Years Eve. I seemed to have skipped right over a particularly special day for me and my hubs. Dec 27th (to be exact) marks the day I met the love of my life and now to be husband of my dreams. I felt particularly inspired to share this post today because its a very special day in our home.
Today is Brody’s Birthday!!
Brody is the most positive, caring, hardworking, passionate, and handsome man I have ever met. He inspires me everyday to be myself and truly embrace life. From the day we met, my life has only gotten better.
He knows me better than anyone else in this world and somehow he still manages to love every part of me even when I can’t. Brody is my best friend and one true love. There is still a part of me today that cannot believe that I’m the one who got to marry him.
HOW WE MET
Brody and I met 7 years ago working at the Keg Steakhouse & Bar together. I fell head over heels almost immediately! After one nearly inseparable year together we decided to embark on our first ever adventure as a couple. We packed our backpacks and jumped on a plane to South East Asia. Six months of travel, eight different countries, and a lifetime of memories later we arrived home.
It’s crazy how much you can learn about a person once you’ve travelled with them. Travelling definitely brought us closer together in so many ways, but it also showed us how very different we truly are. From my own experience I’ve learnt that in a relationship its ridiculously easy to become co-dependant on your partner. I believe in the importance of nurturing your self identity and never allowing yourself to get lost in the partnership.
What felt like a hot minute later, Brody and I were off on our second crazy adventure together. This time we threw all plans out the window and decided to embark on what turned out to be a 9 month sailing trip. We truly embraced vulnerability and pushed our boundaries of comfort as we decided to live in absolute freedom as “boat hitch-hikers.” Never heard of this term before? Trust me, neither had we! A “boat hitch hiker” is a term we used to explain to our parents how we were living without completely freaking them out. To be honest though some people may have simply called us homeless!
We started our trip in Spain, sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to the Carribean Islands, up the East Coast, and ended our adventure back in Canada. If there’s one thing I took from this trip was how much you can grow as a couple and individuals when you embrace your fears. I truly believe that if it doesn’t scare you its probably not worth doing. Throughout our travels we lived out of a small backpack having hardly any clothes, technology, or excess material items… yet some how I felt richer than ever before in my life.
It’s not what you have, its how you use it that truly matters.
Brody and I got married at the Saanich Fairgrounds on Vancouver Island. The location was so unbelievably perfect for our cozy country themed wedding. It’s such an incredible feeling to have all your friends and family in one place to celebrate you and your love for an entire weekend! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I cherished every moment of it.
THE MORNING OF…
The morning of my wedding started with all my girls! These woman are all so unbelievably empowering and a true inspiration to me everyday. I couldn’t have imagined getting married without each and everyone of them by my side. Even when distance comes between us, we always find a way to stay connected one way or another. These woman are more then just bridesmaids to me, they are lifelong friends, aunties to my future kids and hot chickas I call up when I need to hit the dance floor!
The ceremony was held on the front field at the Fairgrounds. It was an incredibly hot day in July to say the least, but it was beyond worth the sweat dripping down my butt to wear the dress of my dreams on our special day.
A lot of people have asked me why I had have my sister Katie photograph our wedding. I understand its not the most typical cookie cutter arrangement; however, when my sister asked if she could photograph our wedding I was beyond thrilled. Looking back on the day it was so unbelievably special to spend nearly every moment of it with her. Getting ready in the morning, our first look, saying I do, she was able to share every single one of these intimate memories with me.
I feel so grateful for my sister and for capturing memories I will cherish forever
Katie is the most caring and supportive big sister I could have ever dreamed of having. She inspires me every day to live my truth and to not be ashamed of being myself. There are no words to express how thankful I am for her being the photographer on our weeding day.
THE BRIDAL PARTY
Meet all 16 of us …
I don’t think it fully registered with me how massive our wedding party truly was until I starting going through all our wedding photos. I feel so incredibly blessed to have the friends that I do in my life. Each and every person in our bridal party means the world to me and I couldn’t have imagined a better group of people to spend our day with.
The day was truly magical. Everyone ate, drank, and was so very merry. The memories, the dancing, the laughter, and above all the love I felt from everyone around me was truly the most magical feeling a bride could ask for.
“Love isn’t perfect. It isn’t a fairytale or a scrapbook, and it doesn’t always come easy. Love is overcoming obstacles, facing challenges, fighting to be together, holding on, and never letting go. It is a short word, easy to spell, difficult to define, and impossible to live without. Love is work, but most of all, love is realizing that every hour, every minute, and every second of it was worth it because we get to be together forever from this moment forward.”
