One thing I’ve noticed since making healthier changes to my diet and lifestyle is that my cravings for sugar have miraculously disappeared. Now lets make on thing clear… just because i’m a Holistic Nutritionist doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy treats! I do, however, opt for healthier brands or homemade as much as possible. One thing that has helped me enormously in reducing cravings is managing my blood sugar levels. I choose to eat fibre rich and low glycemic foods as much as possible.

Chickpeas are an excellent plant based source of protein with over 14 grams of protein per cup! Packed with tones of fibre, vitamins, nutrients and minerals they provide the body with so many amazing benefits. One of my favourite reason for adding chickpeas into my diet is for its blood sugar balancing benefits.
Dark Chocolate is my favourite kind of chocolate. Low in sugar + high in fat is always the way to go. Delicious source of magnesium too!
Cinnamon is an amazing all natural sweetener and blood sugar balancing spice. Did you know that there different types of cinnamon. It’s important to source good quality cinnamon (ceylon cinnamon) as most cinnamon brands you find at the grocery store can actually be carcinogenic. I typically opt for organic cinnamon to ensure I’m getting quality.
The Best Chickpea Chocolate Cookies (Dairy Free + GF)
- Food Processor
- 1 can (14 oz/398 ml) chickpeas (or 1.5 cups)
- 1 cup peanut butter
- ½ cup dark chocolate chips
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp sea salt
- Preheat oven to 350° degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a food processor add all the ingredients aside from the chocolate chips. Blend until fully combined and batter is creamy.
- Form into small balls and lay on baking sheet.
- Bake for 18-20 mins or until golden brown.
